Couple of these last posts are making me want to strip the coat off my LS!

    Thanks!

Started as a forced patina 6 or 7 years ago and most of that wore off as I cleaned game with it and used it in the kitchen. I tend to do a forced white vinegar patina when I first strip the coating off any carbon steel knives then I let nature take it’s course.

More food prep with this one ACD6C6AB-2A09-4EBC-B0B9-AD87A1089845.jpeg

Also used my other LS with the TKC scales to field dress and process a doe the day after Thanksgiving.

35F486B0-AD58-497C-9E75-C89E9ECE3786.jpeg Well the cellphone dry bag got a hole worn in it and the last time I was trudging swamp Friday and apparently dunked my Junglas sheath when I busted through the floatáun and I didn’t realize. Only thing that got damp was my Esee fire steel. I buffed the bulk of the rust offwith a 3M non-scratch pad in hopes of not losing that cool ass case hardened looking patina. Soaking in white vinegar to remove more rust. Decided to put the pouch on my Laserstrike and see how I like it there.

So far after bouncing this pouch around between my Esee 5, Junglas and now this one I’m finding overall that I prefer a knife sheath to stay slim. The Esee 5 became an acme brick with it on and the Junglas just feels out of balance, it needs a bigger pouch of some sort. Feels a lot better on the LS in scout carry. Worst case it’ll become a pocket carry kit with key essentials instead of bolted to one knife constantly.
E9D54643-8161-46BA-B1D9-1C861DB2A3A6.jpeg 30 minutes in white vinegar with some scrubbing with the pad every at 15 minutes and the fire steel’s good as new.

I had to do some off trail work today.

So I wanted a knife, knife.

I grabbed the Laser Strike. It has the pouch and enough goodies to keep we warm and alive if necessary.
There was nothing dramatic today. No Bears, no Tweekers, nothing.

The reason for posting is after I use a knife, I tend to strop it a few times.
I am of the "Easier to keep it sharp, than to make it sharp camp"

I did a declining bunch of passes on each side 4-3-2-1 and then an extra 1 on each side.
Just on Green compound loaded strop.

What has me excited is just where this blade has gotten.
It was as new and sharp when it arrived. Today it went to that magical spot.
You can feel it grab the skin on your finger.

I took a piece of receipt paper and it sliced and diced like crazy.
Straight cuts, curves, I could almost make a circle, but I ran out of real estate.

My admiration of this blade continues to grow.

I had the same experience with my Izula 2. It was sharp out of the box, but a bit of stropping made it a beast. I wonder what is the grit they use in the factory. This made me ditch the polished edge on the 3HM and 6. I finished them on a fine Norton India and did a bit of stropping - they are very sharp and aggressive now, we'll see how that edge holds up.

That’s how my time with the LS has been over the years. I was gifted my first one in 2014 and liked it so much I bought a second one so I didn’t chance losing the modded one. It quickly became my favorite game cleaning and kitchen use knife.

Love my LS. Great for when I want a “big” knife that has a smaller footprint than the 6.

only mod to mine were the etch-strip-patina and I took some material off the spine near the tip to make it a little bit more pointy

I think that's a good description of the Laser Strike.

A big knife in a smaller package.

If they were originally factory stock scales, that is borderline amazing!
