So, the etching job is done. Deep enough I hope. Let’s see after the paint removal…

So far I am very happy about the result. Never thought I would get it like this after my first impression of the blade-condition.

There is one thing about the blade, that is causing a little headache.
The tip of the blade is a little bent.
I would be thankful for your advice.

First option is to accept it.

Second option is to bend it back, but that should be done by somebody who knows how to do it right. A certain heat treatment should be necessary.

Third option is to cut 8 mm off and reshape the tip. But then, the blade has a different shape.

I vote first option. That shouldnt affect much of anything. But its your blade.

If you are going to chop with it, you can leave it like that. Functionally - there will be no difference. Bending it back might not break it, but IMO the metal is already weaker at the point of the bend (as it is a permanent one), so there is always a risk. Grinding it would be my last resort if I break the tip and don't feel like sending it to ESEE due to shipping costs.

That would bug me as well lol. It's probably better to leave it alone and like the others have said, it won't mess with the functionality of it. If you do try and bend it back, use a flat surface and a small hard rubber mallet. It may take a bit but it'll get there. Don't use anything metal or heavy either as it could break it off.

Certainly don't do it like I've done with a Buck 110 years ago - stabbing it 1/2" in a piece of wood and pry in the opposite direction  :D

    Thanks for your answers.
I think I will leave it as it is. If I will dislike it too much in the future, I can try to change it later.

Most definitely, however it's stainless, hollow ground and a bit harder.

Unfortunately I made only little progress with the Junglas 2.
I just stripped it with a paint remover for wood.
I had to put it for 16 hours in the paint remover, before the coating was weak enough.

Next step is light sandblasting and sanding it for a better surface.

One thing is taking hold of me: the bent tip.
Every time I am looking on the blade, I am not satisfied with it.
I think I will cut it off. Otherwise I will never stop looking at it.
To see the shape I have marked the part that has to be cut off.

If you strip another knife, use jasco, it's probably the best out there. But that looks really good!

Thanks for the tip with Jasco.
I will try to get it in Germany for the next knife (Esee 5).

Is it possible to only remove material from the spine, and make a bit of a drop point? Seems like a lot of the tip has to go, from what you marked there!

The idea with a kind of drop point style is quite good. My intention is to cut off as little as possible and not to make the point too round.

For more advice I asked the famous german knife-maker Jürgen Schanz.

Could always go for a giant Laserstrike profile.
