How it started: scrap of white oak, micarta, and several inches of Honda Odyssey suspension coil spring :D

The process is to take your raw material and remove everything that isn't sexy.
So in this case, most of the minivan had to go. :p

Now if I had an R1000RR...
maybe there'd be less to do?

top knife is a big Bowie. A proper sized massive mountain mans Bowie with stag handle. 3 & 1/2" tall blade X 17" long x 24" total length X 1/4" thick 1095 carbon steel. Guard is carbon steel with leather blood drip catcher. I pair this with a Junglas as a small accessory blade, and a 6 as a micro accessory blade.

Bottom knife my buddy in Alberta found in a thrift store - I think it is someone's first attempt at a blade. Sheath was well made but backwards (rough out on one side, blade edge insert backwards). Sharp as hell . Blade length 11", overall length 17". It's an awesome African tribal style bush knife.

Junglas for scale on 2nd pic

About a month ago I was cutting squash off the vine with a $5 linoleum knife and thought “I should get a nice hawksbill.” Only saw one that I liked the shape of but they were out of stock everywhere.

A week or so ago I got a notification they were in stock and ordered it right away in the middle of a Zoom strategic planing meeting. Nobody even knew I checked out for 10 minutes even with the camera on, I hope.

Here it is my 1095 slightly tactical looking squash and eggplant picker.

Sister from another mister? Already started the mods lol. Going to sharpen the pommel into a spike point or whatever is called, and may etch the logos. Really can't do a whole lot to it though. I'll replace the sheath eventually, this one is good but it's bulky. Cut the top half of the sheath off and added a lanyard with a bone bead. Stropped it some but will get it on the lansky later. 20220115_134125.jpg

I'll probably catch slack for doing this, but oh well lol. Worked on the scales and made a lanyard for it. I took some 150 grit and evened out the scales and took a dremel with a sanding drum to lower the brass pins. After that I took a cooking stove and a butane zippo and did a burn on them for that old look. They're not all black but I wanted some character to them. Plus removing the varnish and doing that gives it a lot more texture and grip. It definitely feels so much better in the hands. Before and after. 20220115_223835.jpg 20220115_223844.jpg IMG_20220116_120429_765.jpg 20220116_194756.jpg 20220116_194805.jpg 20220116_194812.jpg 20220116_194826.jpg 20220116_154615.jpg

Kershaw quality. The leek on the right I've had for 9 years. Always had good lock up from day 1. The two leeks on the left are new Random leeks I bought this year. I never really investigated them after purchasing. I open 1 up today to carry and I noticed how poor the lock was, so opened the 2nd and its just as bad.
This is why I like fixed blades..

Amen! The Izzy has a perfect lock.
I really don't like folders, but need to get a good one hand opener for EDC. It's hard for me to justify throwing the cash for a very good fixed blade at a knife that's already broken in the middle. At least it will be only one, still haven't fully decided on the model though.
