SAK lovers pt.2

I mentioned to a knife buddy at work that my middle daughter was wanting a SAK with a saw. He showed up yesterday with a well loved Backpacker II for her. It's got a name engraved in one scale and is missing the tweezers and toothpick but it's in pretty good shape for her to tote around.

We sat down tonight and cleaned it up. Also replaced the paracord on the whistle with a longer section and a slide lock.



I guess tomorrow we'll work on sharpening it. Hopefully I can get her out this weekend on a short hike so she can play with it some.

Picked up some cool SAKs...
Moon landing Tinker and classic
Winter magic Pioneer X

 

After using many different SAKs with more functions, these 2 ones seem to suit me best.

100% utility, since I always have either a LM Surge or ST300 on me, I don't really need more tools on a SAK as IMO the thicker ones are not really comfortable for cutting.

I pair them with a 3 and they are a match made in heaven

 

Just picked up a Huntsman in the translucent red from eBay. Supposedly a TSA confiscation. Looks like a company knife with the ABB logo in it but I've been looking at them for a bit and for $20, figured that was a fair price.

Now to wait for it to get here and play with it.

 

I've had a few Huntsmans over the years. The one I keep in my backpack is a textured nylon-scaled version.

If you like it, you should check out the Camper. It's the Huntsman, minus the scissors. I've got a translucent-scaled Camper Plus which is fantastic.

That Pioneer X is pretty cool!

 

Yesterday I finalized the details on a custom order SAK. When completed, it will be a Compact + wood saw + sewing awl + plus scales + red G10 spacers. I'm pretty excited to see it!

 

That sounds pretty cool!

 

I've carried a Compact on and off for a long time, but it never fully satisfied me outdoors. The combination of knife, combo opener and scissors; plus the small nail file on the parcel hook and the corkscrew with eyeglass screwdriver is just fantastic. With plus scales, I've always got tweezers and toothpick PLUS ink pen and straight pin. It's just great for around work...but leaves me wanting for the wood saw and awl in the woods. I figured I'd just fix that issue, and have one made to suit me.

Hopefully I'll be able to put some pictures up late this week/early next.

 

I wish there was a love option on the "like" button. That's a sweet setup!
