I'm dying to get back on the water! We are mostly thawed out here so hopefully I can poke around the river this weekend.
Well I passed the torch this year. My son passed hunters safety and now he gets the trigger time. These are pictures from the Holiday doe only hunt on New Years and his first turkey, which oddly enough was a bearded hen. He missed a big ol’tom that morning but we had an awesome show. He also got some black pheasants. Those are technically from last year .
Got back out in the field today with good results my son and I both got one. This is mine. Took my dads Winchester out today. Still getting the job done. This is my sons. We’re going to work on his hunting picture skills. We shot these about a half mile apart. We separated stalking 2 different groups. To his credit he was trying to show me how chubby the billy was lol
M70 Featherweight.... that would date to the early/mid 80s I would guess. I was very close to buying one in .270Win at the time but ended up with a Weatherby in .300Win.
When my dad died I gifted one of our close family friends the matching 270 win. It was one of his grail rifles. I kept the 308 and 243. Been using those a lot. Very well built, that and my son has been enjoying my rifles. But I’d never complain about that I enjoy our time in the field way to much. Edited to add: You’re right on the nose 1986 made if I remember correctly.
Had a good after school hunt with my son today. Good thing too, I was down to my last 4 pounds of goat meat.
My best friend from college is from Alaska. I've known him for 19 years, and finally went and fished the red sockeye run with him and his family for several days (they do it every summer). Alaska truly is amazing. Came home with about 40 lbs of fresh salmon and a new addiction to fishing that river. hike we went on
Got a little pig with the bow today. Broke an arrow and lost the broad head when it fell down the hillside. The price per pound went up drastically! Edited to add: Figured this group would appreciate the gear description lol. Bowtech Carbon Icon at 60 lbs Arrows are Gold Tip 300 spine Heads are Magnus Stinger 2 blades at 150 grains. I like heavy broadheads. Never got into light and fast.
Was able to harvest a pronghorn with the 6.8. Shot her at about 100 yards then the real work began. I was about 1.5 miles in, it was a long drag back to the car. I really need to invest in a hpg pack frame so I can just haul the quarters out. I took the heavy recon kit bag this hunt to go light with the amount of ground that pronghorn hunting requires. Lightweight is nice but I think a pack that can haul quarters is the way to go.
