I made this tomahawk from a rusty old roofers hatchet I found near my barn. I didn’t take any before pics of the head, I always forget. I made the handle out of an oak stair bannister that was probably 100 years old. My parent tore a house down and I got a few. Very fun project. Now I’m looking for more decrepit old hatchet heads to re shape. I also made a sheath from some scraps I may upload pics the roofers head pic is just for reference
I would remove that wedge and use a wooden wedge the full length of the eye to fill the gap. I would be afraid that it will get loose like it is. Of course I'm only going off the picture, it may be tighter than it looks.
Thanks everyone! And yeah the wedge was my main problem because the eye was way smaller at the bottom the the top. Which seemed backwards, but I’ve never had a roofer hatchet, I will try the wood wedge, I never even thought of that. I was excited to find it on my property as well as a pick. I might redo that too.
If the wedge doesn't want to come out I would just leave it and try it like it is. That turned out cool though. I have never thought of or seen that done.
