That's how our season was two years ago. Weather was warm for a couple weeks then dropped with snow till the beginning of May. The mushrooms had already started growing then got smoked by the wet cold weather. It sucks, but I guess it's another reason to appreciate them even more the years you do well.

We found four a week ago just on our way to the camp site. Went back out today and found I think as many as I have in a day. Also got a couple pheasant backs, which I didn't really know of until this year.

Young dryads saddle is a good mushroom. Not a fan of eating them as a meal on their own, but sautéed with onions on a steak, or added to a sauce or soup they are quite tasty. Just make sure they're small and the polyspores on the back are very underdeveloped, otherwise they are tough and taste like wood.

I've never cared for puffball mushroom. I'd love to try it having someone else cook it. Maybe it's just me? I did however see where people are using fried puffball slices as the dough for pizzas and that looked like something I'd like to try.

I've never tried it before. I've heard the taste and texture are... unique. lol Still excited to try it out. We're really into learning how to forage from our woods / property right now.

Its just like tofu. Steals the taste from whatever you cook it in. Made it taste like egg for the chicken burgers and we breaded it for bread sticks. It was actually really good. 20200925_192414.jpg 20200925_193419.jpg 20200925_211305.jpg 20200925_212728.jpg
