Just nabbed a Demeyer 5-layer 3½ quart saucier. I think the Escoffier cookbook is about to get a workout!

Just ordered a pair of Doc Martens Cap-toed boots. This is like, the zillionth pair of DMs for me, but I’ve always wanted a pair of the Cappers (they aren’t made every year).

We ordered a freeze brand from Pittsburg Foundry (which is actually in Texas, not Philadelphia lol). We got the 3 main horses done today, the ones that have earned their place here and will die here on the ranch. We still have 3 others that have to prove themselves so for now it'll just be these three and the cows. Once the hair grows back, the brand will show up white, as opposed to a hot brand which usually shows up darker. The last horse (he's actually our Mini that all 3 kids have learned how to ride on) was previously branded by his breeder, which is what the "J" is under our star.

What's the benefit of the freeze brand over a hot brand? Just color contrast?

It's a lot easier on the animal for the most part. They still typically get sedated for it, but there's no scab or anything to deal with afterwards. Then there's the plus side of it showing up white, which makes for a better contrast. You can also get a lot more detail and a much finer end result with freeze branding.

Hot brands are fast, so if you're branding a bunch of cattle out in the field, it's easy to do. When doing freeze branding you have to shave the spot you're branding and you have to have a tank of liquid nitrogen (or dry ice and denatured alcohol if you can't get a tank).

you know I have the timberline 1300 and the Pro34. That Pro34 is my work horse and really just keeps going no matter how many hours I put on her. Great purchase.
