Mads was great in that. I think it’s one of the better “survival” movies in recent years.

I agree. And the lack of dialogue is a nice contrast to the overly gabby Tom Hanks in Castaway. I think in contrast they both show the two different personalities prominent in survival.

Hanks being the person who has developed a dialogue with (himself) as a coping mechanism for the loneliness, stress, and psychological torture the situation has caused him.

Mads being the driven, stoic, calculated survivor. Who has had enough training (likely due to being an arctic bush pilot) that he sets talks and goals for himself constantly to get through the day hour by hour (shown by the watch timer)

An interesting thought... Which would you I be more like? Tough question to answer.

Can we just put a “spoilers” in the title, I also have thoughts on this but don’t want to ruin it for people who have not seen the film.

Ok I’ll be “that guy”. Mods delete if needed.

    ***SPOILER ALERT***

Questions for the SAR guys, WFRs, and people with survival training:
    1. Should he have stayed at camp? He had shelter, he had no issue catching fish for food, he had fire. He decided to drag a critically injured person through a very difficult arctic landscape.
    2. Similar when he came to the unmapped mountain. My wilderness medical training would (I believe) have suggested you leave the injured person - covered in shelter/blanket, turned on their side if they were unconscious - and get to help if it was only a couple hour hike away. He decided to drag the injured on an additional multiple day journey through the arctic landscape.

Both seem like they get you into a “now you have two problems” situation. But I’d like to learn from the experts here.

I had very similar thoughts. But, that said, I cannot recall if the movie showed how long he had been there after the crash. And we also didn’t get any backstory on the other fatality of his crash. It is very possible that he or she too had survived the crash and sustained a serious injury. Mads may have treated the injury and watched the decline of health while waiting for a rescue party that never came. Obviously the end result of just waiting was buried under the first set of stacked stones.

Obviously we need some exposition to prove this. But I could see making the choices he did given that scenario.

Taking her with his could have proven life threatening for the both. But given that his journey was 4-5 days and she was already suffering a fever, and wasn’t strong enough to drink water or provide warmth for herself, she’d have likely perished in two to three days. If he was set on leaving, I think he made the right call there with taking her with him.

FYI - can always use the spoiler button to, well, hide a spoiler someone may not want to read...

Hahaha same. Holy crap! Well at this point I think I’ll just add “spoilers” to the title.

I’d liked it to have more of a backstory. How long was he there? Where was that place he walked to before or during his journey when he looked at the ID of a much younger version of his self?
