My pinnacle was an HTL and now that its done whats left to do is team assessment and selection. Not a huge fan of either so off to the pasture i go.
I hope go earn the GORUCK patch eventually. I've got the spartan Trifecta for the last few years and I am signed up for the Spartan Ultra in the fall. IF the Ultra goes well. I'll give the GORUCK a shot.
Got a buddy that did spartans and went with me on a Goruck. Swore hed never do it again. Two different beasts. If you want next level then Goruck is your thing.
You can always do a Light before committing to a Tough. I did a Light and that was enough to convince I had a ways to go before I could do a Tough.
As it turns out....if you don't seriously train for an HTL then you probably don't need to do one. I did a TL back to back last weekend and while I didn't do terrible at it I felt that an HTL is still a little out of my league. I'm putting it off, luckily I can get an event voucher, until I can get serious about a training program. Anybody used the Heavy Drop Training? Wondering if it's worth the price tag.
An HTL is not an easy undertaking. Respect the bolts. Ever done a heavy? The pt test is a brute sometimes. Never used a training program. Went to a cross training gym 3-4 times a week and went all in as well as rucked heavy for long distances.
No I haven't. I was planning to knock it out all at once so I wouldn't mentally put off doing an HTL but I may try doing a Heavy first. They have changed up the PT requirements and they do the Robbie Miller WOD now for the PT test and I know I can't do ring pullups. I'll work on a plan and see where I'm at in a few months.
If you guys are feeling froggy and already have an HCL under your belt and want even MORE of a challenge, I suggest the CPA exam.
I love this thread, but I don't want to reread 21 pages to see if anyone recommends a pack that isn't the GR1. I want to dip my toes into rucking, but I can't afford to spend $300 on a pack.
Grab a backpack any backpack. If you do events you will want a goruck bag otherwise get whatever and get out there.
No clue. I would assume so. Ive always used bricks or pavers for weight requirements. I bought a plate once but hated it.
I'd recommend the Rucker - if you're eligible (or know someone who is that wouldn't mind ordering for you) for their 25% service discount you could get one for about $200 (military, police, fire, teachers, etc..). They also run July 4th sales each year, although I'm not positive if it will be for gear or events or both. You could also try looking on the WTS thread on reddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/Goruck/), sometimes good deals pop up there. I don't think GORUCK bags are the best for everything, but they're hard to beat for events if you have that in mind. If going with another brand interior MOLLE or some other way to secure the weight is extremely helpful. Sure you can throw bricks/ sandbag/ some other weight in any ruck/ pack, but if it just sinks to the bottom it will for sure suck. If you live near an REI you might be able to snag a good deal during one of their garage sales. Backpacking packs aren't the best option if you're doing a GORUCK event, but I've seen people use them (and a lot worse) and they can be just fine for rucking.
