...well perhaps that was a little harsh but I was up at the big hardware place day before yesterday and in the BBQ section saw these...

...... yep....little prefabricated tinder piles with some shavings glued in the bottom to make your campfire lighting experience that much more convenient .....:eek::confused::confused::mad::mad:

OK..... I accept this is not the ACTUAL end of the world, and if they sell, well good luck to the inventor, but I did find it somewhat astonishing....:cool:

Same place was selling pre-made "Fire Logs" a little ago.... you know...a short section of tree truck (maybe 50cm) with some cross cuts on the top and a fire starter wedged in the cuts so you can have your very own Burn Down fire during your next adventure into the great outdoors.....

The hardware store by me was selling used pallet deck boards for $5.99 each. Some still had the nails still lodged in them.

with the never ending rise of tactisexuals and metrojacks, I'm afraid this trend will only continue to grow. I should start selling pre made feather sticks for $30 a pop.

To quote Todd Snyder and the Nervous Wrecks, “there’s no price that we’re to proud to pay”. My generation should be proud.

Granted one should be capable of making it themselves, but that kindling bundle looks pretty darn convenient lol.

Some years ago I had 2 tiny bottles, about an ounce each, 1 blue 1 red. Pour a few drops of blue and then an equal amount of red.....8 seconds later "poof", instant fire. Coolest damn thing ever. :). Store bought too, perfectly legal.

Get on that cash cow and make a better one...someone's gonna buy, someone has to sell. :D:cool: I've seen fat wood stick for sale, pre made tinder in stores, and such. Folks are buying is what's crazy. I'd never buy something I could source myself, but the seller is a straight genius.

Wow. This reminds me of YouTube video I saw.

People are becoming increasingly reliant on convenient products and less capable of doing things for themselves.

You get to choose how you see it. A premade tinder bundle could be a sign of the downfall of society, or it could be the perfect thing to get someone started on the journey to learn those timeless skills. I'm not going to judge someone else's path. After all, what's legitimately the worst thing this can do? Get more people without skills to step into the outdoors? To create that initial spark of joy you get when you create a fire, for someone who might've never started a fire in their life? To provide a launching off point, or to even reaffirm and keep the spirits high of someone who's greener than the inside of a Canadian's corncob?

I mean after all, do you think someone who's already outside making fires like PawPaw taught 'em is going to suddenly see prefabbed tinder bundles, or any variant thereof in the store, and go "Well dang, looks like it's easy street from here on out"?

It's targeting a different market. IMO, it's for people who haven't learned the ropes yet, or for people who genuinely don't care and would have never learned the ropes (and just not had a fire at all instead) anyway. Good for them! I hope they enjoy their fire.
