So I just bought a Benchmade SOCP Dagger for a close quarters last ditch weapon and the 1/3rd grind kept getting on my nerves. I wanted the double edge version, but wanted a real double edge. So I just went ahead and made it. I finally really like the knife now. Took a lot of filing, sandpaper and stropping, but well worth the time investment. Let me know what you guys think!
Haha yea I bet. I did it mostly with 220 grit sandpaper after filing the primary bevel. It's full convex now after I placed the sandpaper on a mousepad working my way up to 800 grit. I took my time with it because I wasn't sure how the steel would react and it was a $100 knife (I don't buy many things new so it would kill me to mess up a brand new knife)
Thanks man, I appreciate it. I ended up sticking with the 800 as the highest for now so It can keep that slight toothy edge. I figured as a defensive blade, a little bite wasn't a bad thing.
That looks really nice OP. I'm gonna do something similar but less ambitious with the false edge on the back of my combo blade. You turned an SOCP into a Spartan CQB! If ESEE made a knife like this we'd be lining up for it!
Updating this thread with what I did. With a little work and the right tools I was able to put a real edge on the back of it.
