I ain't loco enough to try a challenge, but I am a huge fan of GoRuck as a gear company. Just got my GoRuck MACV-1 boots in the mail yesterday. Can't wait to put some miles in em and see if they live up to the talk like most everything else they have made does.
I didn't go to my Tough. I had a good reason. My wife went into labor. GORUCK was kind enough to allow me to switch to a different date. Now I'm signed up for the Battle of the Bulge Tough in January.
Love that avatar @CCMI I took a trip to Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids recently to tour Bell's and Founder's.
goruck has a sale going on...anyone use one while riding a motorcycle with leather jacket? since there's no sternum strap do you find that the shoulder straps are slippery and wish it did especially through the twisties? i sometimes want to carry water during the hotter months (i just hate buying something from the gas station and have to finish it before i can leave) or extra fuel...the mountains i frequent i have no cell signal and i've either had my or a buddy's gas light turn on while exploring new areas and we have to turn back taking the shortest distance instead of the fun way. the bullet 10 seems to be the perfect bare bones pack for my intended use.
Don’t ride myself, but I don’t think you’d have any issues with the straps slipping. The way they’re designed you can cinch the shoulder straps pretty darn snug and still comfortably move your arms. They tend to ride a little higher up and close to your back also. GORUCK does sell a sternum strap but if it’s out of stock I also like the PIG sternum strap on skdtac.com just as well or better.
ah, the sternum strap is in the accessories section...i was expecting to see it in the rucksack page directly as an option. thanks!
My dumb ass signed up for several events next year....now I just have to get ready for them. I did the Pearl Harbor Light in Atlanta last week and it rained.....a lot. Now I have a 12 mile Star Course in March, a T/L in May and an H/T/L in June. I haven't done a Heavy yet so I figured I might as well make a run for the bolts while I can. What do the rest of you have coming up?
Ive heard of it on the HPG page. I think the only issue would be the fast transitions and over the long term durability. They like to... stress folks.
I have not and I don't know of anyone that has. I'm not sure if you know or not but sometimes your ruck doesn't stay your ruck during an event. It's only happened to me once where we had musical rucks that everybody swapped around but when I got mine back the shoulder strap had been ripped out. Now, keep in mind, that was a cheap bag that I was using to see if I could handle these events but I wouldn't want to pass off a good bag to somebody who won't care. Just something to think about from that perspective.
Affliction addiction. The last one I did hurt me...badly. And it was an “easy” tough. The last tough I shadowed (underage son doing an event required this) I vowed off shadowing. Did the light with him the next day as he was doing the Tough/Light. It was not a challenge. Bad place of limbo. Light is no challenge. Challenge hurts middle age body. Heavy is out of the question at this point. Might sell off all my gear. Argggg
I should probably do the same but I'm still to stupid right now. Trying to force myself to get ready for the Heavy PT test in the end of May has been a challenge. Trying to knock out the Star Course 12 to see how I'm doing on endurance and time management. ..bet you won't do it
