Thats a good size. If you wanted that size but an old restored axe look at a hudson bay style. I also have a few Norlunds on the way that would work for that
When you get something that you think would work let me know, you can PM me an idea of price if you want to
True Temper Flint Edge on a straight 19" @rlambracht_axeworks handle with a big palm swell. This is a great option when you need the portability of a shorter tool but the oompff of a bigger head . The sheath is, big breathe, 9/10oz veg tanned leather, wrapped in heavy weight canvas, trimmed in thinner leather and then completely stitched with forest green tiger thread. The whole sheath was then waterproofed inside and out. Brass Chicago screw and button snaps keep everything tight to the axe. .
Traded in to this double bit the other day don't know who it's made by, only marking is a stamped "M1"
Well after cleaning up the double bit I found another stamp on it besides the "M1" there's a capital "I" dead center. Anyone have an idea of the maker?
Got the new handles mounted, both the double bit and single bit axe head's weigh 3.5#'s according to the kitchen scale. They throw pretty good too
I'm debating sanding the finish down and treating them with boiled linseed oil tinted with some BLACK rit dye
I have a really old hatchet/hawk head that I'd love to re-mount. My dad found it in the 80's, stuck in a tree about 15' off the ground. So the only thing he can assume is that someone stuck it in the tree when the tree was much smaller, and over the years it just stayed there while the tree grew. It had the remains of a rotten handle still stuck in it and it's all cleaned out now, but the eye isn't uniform at all so I'm not really sure how to re-handle this thing. I'll take pictures later.
