My brother is a big fan of the video game Destiny, and one of the characters has a knife for stealth attacks and throwing at enemies. I'm not a knife maker, and I don't have the correct tools, but I figured I would make him a silly gift for when I see him this upcoming weekend. Everything was done with a grinder and drill, as well as a Dremel-like tool that was underpowered for what I was doing.

"Papa" is what the guys he plays with calls him.

Family Knitting, Crocheting, “Knooking” day. Helps to brush up occasionally. If you are any good doing detail work with a blade or suturing patients or hand sewing then crocheting atleast is pretty easy. I practiced all three on the one with the needles. The other ones are all crocheted with the biggest 2 about 8x10 if I remeber correctly. The smallest being the size of a drink coaster.

not so much "make" , more like "secure".

I find the THYRM CellVaults (reg & XL) , tend to self open is nudged or bumped or a branch etc hooks them.

So a simple 1" wide velcro wrap in between the PALS/MOLLE grid , wrapped around the entire Thrym vault, prevents this. I plan to improve this even more with a large nitrile O-Ring with a little pull tab on it.

    thyrm.jpg

i think their latch design could be redesigned BETTER, for a much more solid lockup and securing of the unit to prevent the Vault from opening and the contents : gettingwet, or lost.

    still love these things though.

Starting to knock out a kuksa. Saw some mesquite with the beautiful red in it, and thought I'd give it a go. Rough right now, but coming along. IMG_5409.JPG IMG_5410.JPG IMG_5411.JPG IMG_5412.JPG

Decided to make a couple of random hats for practice today.. Red and white has no brim. The rainbow colored one has about a 1 inch brim stitched in.

(Why these colors?? They were on SUPER clearance and the kiddos love them :) )

Finished my 100% wool stocking cap. Water bottle for size reference. Next step is to soak in hot water for a while and then nuke in the dryer. Should shrink up nice and snug. The color is a natural white/ light yellow color and will start picking up colors with use.

If this does not end up shrinking well I can go to a smaller circumference and the stitching will be half it’s current width.

If there continues to be problems esp with the gaps I may just double knit it BUT that’s not going to be easy..

    Water bottle for size reference.

Surefire, knitting hook and pacifier for alternate size reference.

I remember a neighbor i had years ago.......old Nova Scotia fisherwoman, she would make these ridiculously large (like XXXXXL( wool sweaters that weighed like 20 lbs and then she would boil them in a vat and shrink them. The wool was so tight water could not pass thru . Then she would Lanolin oil them to make it even more waterproof.
