Living in SEMO doesn’t offer much in the way of picturesque views. I enjoy the crops, but the flat is annoying. Took a little road trip with my family. Nothing too rugged, but we certainly hit some remote spots. We went the length of Texas and stopped just shy of NM to visit with some friends. From there we went up to Carlsbad Caverns. Enjoyed crossing the Guadalupe mountain range. From Carlsbad we went to NW corner of NM and hit Chaco Canyon. Awesome canyon with ancient native dwellings.
Next we hit the Bisti Wilderness. Hoodoos and petrified wood at every corner. Like being on a different planet!! Would loved to spend more time in this place. Super remote, super hot, super dry, and super awesome. Next up was Four Corners, and Mesa Verde. Up to ride the Durango/Silverton barrow gauge.
We travelled to Buena Vista for more camping, hiking, and rockhounding. Cottonwood Pass Mary Murphy mine above the ghost town of St Elmo. Garden of the gods and Pike’s Peak.
Nice pics. Love that area and all the caverns. Ate the best Mexican food I ever had right outside of Kermit, TX and also ran into the biggest rattlesnake I have ever seen. There was an abandoned town near the border that was straight out of The Hitcher movie. Long story.
Beautiful pictures and trip! We've been to several of those places and had a great time. Look forward to going back some day... thanks for posting...
