..........nothing......aside from a piece of metal suddenly spinning and slamming into the thumb area and twisting the wrist....at high speed high torque. drill press......gear driven drill press at my buddies garage was drilling a piece of metal and the drill bit bound in the metal, suddenly releasing it from the vice and slamming the piece of steel HARD into the base of my thumb. Hard enough to crack multiple bones and twist/sprain my wrist. limited movement, not that painful, but a bit painful....
hahahhahaha...I DID!!!!!!! it was secured to the drill platform base with a single lock screw.........whole damn thing rotated HARD!
That’s a man’s hand ????? Sorry mate, could not resist. That looks painful mate !!!! Ice and some rest !!!
Get some pictures taken on that. You are too young to end up with a crippled up hand because you were too macho to go get it looked at. In the mean time, I agree with the ice option for now. Elevated as well. Anyone out there that knows better, correct me. Please.
oh its hurting now.......but it didn't stop me from snow wheeling and chopping wood. Doc says there are very minor hairline fractures (3). Said I was lucky it did not dislocate. Tendon tears as well. Iced / heat all night, kept it moving today a lot. Sore but manageable. Just glad it was buddies small drill press and not the massive floor mounted one. Would have lost my hand.....
Totally agree! I almost did the same back in September, but decided something wasn't right. Turned my freak batoning incident fractured the heck outta my trigger finger. The Dr said I would've definitely messed it up worse if I had kept using it. Took 8-9 weeks to mend.
I had a coworker once that tried to drill out the mounting hole in a cable clamp with a cordless drill. He tried to hold the clamp by sticking his finger through it as he drilled it. It tried to twist his finger off.
Dude, you are very lucky. I hope you heal quickly. Tendon tears are no joke. I'm currently healing from a surgery where I had to have the distal tendon of my bicep put back where it belongs.
Many years ago (over 30) I tore the cartilage in my knee and had arthroscopic surgery on it. Doc said I might be on crutches for up to six weeks. He took me off crutches in 7 days. When I asked him about the six week prognosis, he said that too many young guys will get that surgery on Friday and be back out playing football on Monday so he says six weeks in the hopes that maybe they will stay off it for a week. I told him that I wanted to walk properly when I was sixty and would have stuck with the crutches until he took me off them. Point is, that better to be inconvenienced for a short time now than maybe in pain with restricted use/movement for a very long time later. I sure wouldn't be chopping wood or wheeling with that thing right now if you have broken or cracked bones.
Nasty comminuted fracture. Increased risk for Osteomyelitis. Glad you healed up without complications,
