So I’ve been eyeing a Remington 700 SPS tactical in .308.. now that they’ve filed for bankruptcy, is there anything else better for the same money or just a little bit more?

I was gonna go back and buy another X-Bolt but it’s $1000 opposed to the 700 that was on sale for $500 at Dick’s a couple days ago. I’ll have to look into Tikka. I know they’re great rifles I’m just looking for something a little “tacticool”.

Check out the CTR, it's about $900 by me.

Even though they are going under, I feel the 700 has enough established aftermarket support that you would be fine having one if you ever needed to change something or fix something.

I would go CTR. Best $1500 you can spend is the tikka sporter. The laminate wood stock is awesome and it faithfully imitates the Sako TRG lines which if you have never had the opportunity to shoot take my word is pure perfection.

If you don’t like the look of the tikka sporter stock because of the color (being not tacticiool well that’s what paint is for)

I promise mine often wins in the tacticool department

But the CTR is hard to beat and it is going to be far more consistent then a Remington sps with a better faster bolt throw and a much better trigger

@ny700 that thing is pretty wicked!

@Zeek I think I’m sold on the Tikka. I’ll have on by the end of the month if I get this side job this weekend.

While not the fanciest optic out, I’ll be mounting my Leupold VX-R 4-12x50 with 30mm tube on it. Should be fine for my skill level.

First, I would still consider Remington, but there are at least another couple strong runners. Savage is a good choice, and Howa is another. I know, some of you guys are saying Huh? Howa? They are a Japanese firearm company that has been around a long time. The Weatherby Vanguard was built for Weatherby by them, and if basically a Howa 1500.
Please don't believe me though, look it up for yourselves. ;)

Looking at some of these rifles make me think the sky is the limit price wise. Was there a budget we're working with here?

Right? My firearms in general need to be $700ish full furnished.

My next bolt is a Mossberg MVP .308 with a vortex 3-9.
