Looking for a Gransfors Bruks Splitting Axe with the 27-30" handle if anyone has one they want to part with. I am willing to pay with real money or soap which ever you prefer.
I've been looking into the GB 5lb for splitting up larger/knotty rounds, possibly the 7lb maul. I have their hatchet and SFA - both have been excellent, but they lack the weight and heft to split larger logs. Those Hults both look nice - I like those cheeks! I think they might be too light (2lb/3.5lb) for getting through larger rounds or knots/hardwood. I have a 3.5lb/32" true temper that I use for larger splitting, but it still struggles with the big stuff. I'd really like to score a LH Farm Axe (4.5), but they're pretty hard to come by and I don't have $500+ drop on an axe
Yeah I have the SFA and a cheapo Truper (Home Depot) axe but not a true splitting axe/maul. I can't decide if I want the full maul or the large splitting axe. Flip of a coin really. I don't typically need to use a wedge and if I do I have a sledge I use.. but why not! the extra heft would be handy. and we all like handy! s
I know it's not a Gransfors, but you should just get the Fiskars X27 and or the 8lb (6lb?) splitting maul and call it a day. They are comfortable workhorses.
Yea I agree that probably all I need for the type/amount of splitting I do, but I am a card carrying fan boy of GB... Cant shake it...
I am pretty much to that point, too. I was handling the Fiskars X27 (6.3lb) at Home Depot the other day and it seems solid. $60 is much easier to justify, too! Also, @vBlake - this is available on BF right now: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/transfers-small-splitting-axe.1552045/ I just think the 3.5lb head and 23" handle aren't gonna do much more than my SFA and True Temper already do.
