talk me into or out of an instantpot. I've never owned one and none of my local friends have them. I'm really interested in faster cooking and utilizing fresh veggies. Discuss. Post recipes and pics if you want, I encourage this.
Hope this is a good thread. I've had one in my Amazon wish list since the new year... haven't pulled the trigger yet. I'm not sure if the Instant Pot brand is the way to go though, there's a couple lower priced options out there.
SWMBO was complaining about food prep on the road (she works out of town and comes home on the weekends), and I kept hearing good things about instant pots -- then found a rice/multi-cooker that sounded like it did 80% of the same things -- only not a pressure cooker and no low temp "yogurt" setting -- for $30 instead of $90. she loves it -- although I do hear "but the instant pot would do this faster".......
I have one. It's nice. Replaces the crock pot easily, never had a rice cooker before but it does an okay job of that. It shines on making those cheap cuts of meat that are delicious after half a day of cooking not take half a day of cooking, and beans. So if you like those things get one. It's also great if the yankies invade and you need to manufacturer IED's. I'm not really sure how great a job it does on veggies, it does have a steam function but I've never used it, its not likely any faster then a pot on a stove.
we love ours. easy to cook great meals super fast, easy cleanup. if you're interested in clean eating then it makes things faster. throw some healthy **** in the pot, turn it on, eat, was the insert out. does a great job with veggies alone, but it's best when you toss it in with something else. pot roast, a chicken w/ veggies, etc. any kind of stew usually comes out awesome.
Just cooked a whole 7 pound chicken yesterday, took about 28 minutes. Falling off the bone good-but if you like a crispy skin you need to put in the oven on broil for a few minutes. I replaced about 4 other type of cookers with it !!!
I was nervous about doing a trial run for a week night supper so I did shredded pork sandwiches for Saturday lunch. 1 hour of pressure cooking and about 40 minutes for a natural release. My pork was thawed and cut into rough cubes. The Instsnt Pot will see a lot use.
