We dodged a bullet last night. From the top of today's forecast by my meteorologist colleague.
    ___

"We got somewhat of a break with the very powerful storm last night as it tracked a bit further west and came right up Penobscot Bay on its way to Aroostook [northern-most county nestles up against Quebec] this morning. That movement pushed the heaviest snow to our west over the mountains and allowed a bit of rain and drizzle to top off the snow during the night over much of our region and that kept snow total a bit lower than they would have been had the storm’s center stayed further east as originally projected. But snow totals over our region still ended up being about 10-14 inches with a lot of drifting from the very strong N to NE winds before the center got closer and the milder air brought in the light rain and drizzle. But now that the storm’s center has passed by central Maine while heading north, it’ll be pulling in some relatively colder and much drier air from the west and southwest during the day and keep temperatures from rising much above where they are this morning."

Interesting. We're expecting a few flurries today, but right now (1 pm Wednesday 3/15), nothing but water dripping off the roof. Positively balmy out with zero wind.

I think it is officially 32°F but in the sun shoveling this mush that is warm enough.

Good to read that T'dore is seeing sun. That means it's on the way here now, too. I've seen nothing so far today but solid gray clouds. Right now -- 2:45 pm -- we got flurries but relatively warm -- low/mid 30's I think.

I just finished reading and starting a discussion with some colleagues on another network about a new discovery in cell/molecular biology that has not only blown my mind, but rocked my world. It changes so much for me professionally. It opens doors that I couldn't have even hoped for yesterday. I'll not address it here, but it's a crux article for my thread about biology and ecology (see "ecology" sig line). I'll post it there. More to come about it there.

But for now, time to pack a picnic lunch of sladeviled eggs (hey, @Slade) and bacon and get out in the backwoods on the snowshoes, ponder this Earth-shaking news in biology, and shoot some footage of this new snow -- which will likely (hopefully) be the last significant snow of this season -- but its too early yet to really hope too hard for that.

Just back in from my afternoon walk in the woods -- first since last Sunday. Snowshoed on 1' of fresh -- and needed the shoes -- post hole galore without them.

Spectacular afternoon. Spectacular!!! Never even saw blue sky, let alone sun. Had two major snow showers -- everything on me - coat, pack, hood etc -- got coated twice in heavy wet snow, but the temps were great! From 30 F when I got out to 20 when I was coming back in at dark and no wind! It was so unbelievably beautiful down in the ravine today, and peaceful! Absolutely quiet. Could've heard a mouse sneeze from 30 yds away. Took LOTS of vid footage and photos. Coming soon to a North Woods Adventure thread near you. ;)

It is currently 84 degrees and 33 degrees in the state.
Some parts are sunny some are getting snow.

It's been raining where I am since last night.

Precipitation didn’t come like they thought, which I’m fine with.

But we did drop 30 degrees in an hour or so.

Some places had winds up to 60 mph.
In the 20s here with a 30 every now and again. That makes it feel much colder.

Bottom is still dropping, will be teens tonight.
Started the day at 56 degrees F.

Oh it’s about weather... I thought this was a flat earth thread.

We can talk about flat Earth here, also. In my view -- as a scientist -- it's beyond stupidity.

A flat Earth would not even have weather, at least nothing like we have now, with jet streams, Coriolis effects, etc.

I mean, what are those people smoking?

I have not subscribed to the flat earth theory but I have read just enough into it to know that like politics and religion the flat earth subject will ignite and polarize any conversation. Which can be useful if your into that kinda thing.
