I use Frog Lube. I've noticed it keeps the flats of the blade a little slick and seems to prevent the coating from getting worn off as quickly. I haven't used b-fat yet, but I want to try it. During fall and winter with constant precipitation you'll get rust. I'll lightly rub the blade with 0000 steel wool and the blade is like new.
Are there any issues under the scales? Thinking of hitting it with some lacquer clear just as a protectant.
I've never had any issues. If you're worried pop the scales off, throw a thick layer of lube on the handle. Put the scales back on tight with lock tight, wash it up, and you'll be good to go. My cleaver went through two Michigan winters with no rust in this area.
I was working on my RAT-7 and ESEE 6 setups yesterday and wound up with a spare ferro/mag rod. I use some paracord to wrap it up on the side of my CR2.5 sheath. I think I'll swap it for some survival cord in the future. Been looking for a reason to order a hank of that to play with anyways.
Lookin' good! If you are going to leave that rod in there long term. Take some clear nail polish to the rod to waterproof it. They tend to deteriorate rapidly once they get/stay wet. You may already know this, just an FYI. LV,
I didn't know that! I'll have to pull it out and give it a good coating. Surely some of the women in this house have some nail polish I can use.
