It is a sounding axe! I think some overused, abused, these and complaints about the small eye arose. User abuse more than bad product, i think. How do you like it. It looks cool.

There was a guy on BF named snakedoc. He made that for me. It was cool.

I do believe they are sold as a sounding axe. I had read complaints about the eye size before. When I modded this one, I ground down the cheeks, to make it thinner, per this tut: http://oldjimbo.com/survival/vaughangrind.html

It doesn't cut too bad on some kindling. All I ever used it for, and that was only one time, haha. It just sits there.

Just so folks know, I've now got Theodore on ignore. I agreed to meet him as per his little challenge if he would agree to also try using the axe that I brought so that he might gain some firsthand experience actually using the tool he's criticizing. He refused and called my honor into question, among other childish and derisive statements, so I'm done wasting my time on him. Told him if he ever changes his mind and decides to be reasonable I'm still game. A bit telling that he hasn't posted any pictures of his own axes in this thread...if he, in fact, does even own an axe, would someone be kind enough to let me know if he posts up some photos or video of him using them, now that he's on "the list"? :)

Anyhow, here's my Milano pattern hatchet before I rehung it on a 24" handle.

At one point I received a few with the bits very slightly twisted relative to the eye. Not bad enough to really affect use, but bad enough that they weren't salable either. Rinaldi sent replacements for them, but didn't want the defective product back so I had the things kicking around. Brought them down to the family camp and my dad enjoyed using it as a kindling axe so much I left one there. They're pretty interesting in that the beard thickens to shield the handle behind it in use during such splitting tasks.

Actually you refused the original challenge. You expressed concerns that you may loose the "race" and that it was about the axes ability not yours. (As with the video I posted with yours, you dont have to be fastest to win. The young man was using a better axe for the job and seems to have more time with an axe in his hands than you, very telling. anyone who has bucked or has an unbiased view can see that.)These concerns came up after I critisized your technique and made sure you were very aware that I would have people video taping both you and I at my woodlot in Pittston. And that I would be posting the video up here. I am more than willing to meet per my origional challenge. Bucking two logs apiece, large seosoned pine off my lot, and fresh cut oak of a large diameter. If you cant back up claims about your product why would anyone want to buy it. As i said, show up, dont show up, whatever. Your ancient polless style axes are unbalanced and not good for bucking and felling. Your loosing to me in a race would not negate the axes ability. I will not hold or use your axes and be a promotion for a bad product. You could save face and still prove your point. Go get a piece of oak, the same diameter as the boy used in the video i posted. Suspend it, put it on the ground whatever. Show the circumfrence on film. Do not cut away. Do not speed up. Pick any of polless large blade axes. You have about 58 chops to show you are not just making false claims. I made the origional challenge. I offered my woodlot. I offered my pine, i offered fresh cut oak. All you had to do was show up. Instead you try to put our axe in my hand cutting wood "or else you wont show up"? If you doubt your ability with an axe, as you clearly do, then you do not be making claims that run against the collective information of those who actually use the tool. The double bit has the closet to perfect balance. The axe with a poll is trying to come as close to that as possible. Lol, your axe, is off balance. Good luck. ANYTIME YOU WANT, give me a heads up. I will supply the woodlot. The wood. And film. You go ahead and take your time. You should probobly come up with a good reason why I need to buck with your axe to defend your claims. Lol.
EDIT,LOL, I just realized you called into question my picture posting or lack of. Ok, guy. Have a good one.

*Sigh* I told myself I wouldn't look at your post and then I did anyway...Should have known better. You sir, are a bald-faced liar. I never expressed any concern for losing and if you continue on this line I will publicly post the messages we exchanged to prove it. Back off and let it be, or man up and just try using the tool. I don't care about you trying to race with it. I just want you to have some sort of experience before you criticize. It might or might not change your assessment and I don't care if it does or not. I just want you to not be making pure conjecture about something you've never even laid hands on. This is like a whiny child saying that they hate a new food they've never tried. I don't care if you tape it, I don't care if I win or lose...I just care that you're pulling this nonsense out of thin air and, now, outright lying. This is trollish behavior. If you ever change your mind and decide to behave like a gentleman I'll gladly meet you face to face and we can do this thing. My one and only condition is that you simply try using the axe I bring. Doesn't have to be on camera, doesn't have to be trying to race with it or make fewer chops or whatever. No other conditions. Just cut some stuff with it so you have an idea of how it actually feels in the hands and behaves in use. Don't speak to me again unless it's to agree to that condition and actually set this thing up. If you can't do that then I have no reason to talk to you.

And yes, I do call your even owning an axe into question. You claim to have a video recorder or camera and you haven't posted any photos to this thread. You spoke in an earlier thread about how your preferred axe is a Connecticut but also posted a thread looking for one and tried to get me to find you one for some odd reason. While it's possible that you have one and want more, I'd expect with your level of enthusiasm for them you'd have posted it by now. If you really have one, post a picture of it along with a piece of copy paper with "FortyTwoBlades is wrong" written on it. Since you've stated you have a camera and the ability to upload videos, that should be easy, right? Please prove me wrong.

Is it a violation of the rules to put up pms? If not I am more than happy to post them myself. Especially the one where you said it awasnt a race and wanted us to use the axes "as intended" and then switch and put forth an honest effort with the other persons or you wouldnt go. Lol.

@FortyTwoBlades -- you've made your point in a rather gentlemanly way. Stay on topic. I really don't want to see another member moving on over a dispute. I for one am not questioning your credibility or knowledge and will continue to learn from your very helpful videos and opinions. And I doubt that I am alone.

Sidenote: I HAVE used and continue to own an Italian axe. :) Because it feels really good when I swing it. :D

Oh I'm not going anywhere. I've got more axes I need to post pictures of. ;)

And I'm getting a quote right now on some AA grade hickory boards so I can make an offset neck handle for my Trento and a few other axes. I want to make a slightly shorter handle for my Italian racing axe. Feels like it needs more like a 28" to me.

Here's that oyster hatchet I was talking about yesterday. At least that's what they're known as locally. I've only used it for splitting kindling and blazing trees on off trail hikes.
