So I’m considering growing out my beard. It gets itchy or the hairs just stick up to much so I’ve always shaved it off. I heard that once it grows a little more the itchiness will go away, is that true? But my main question is about dying it. For some reason my beard hair is a little redder than my head hair and I hate it. Does anyone have theirs dyed, And if so would a standard barber be able to do it? I’m either wanting it to match my head or a tiny bit more brown and I would rather pay someone that knows what they are doing than try it myself.
Grow it out and use a good oil. Also conditioning in the shower is a game changer lol. The the 3-6 week mark is always itchy for me !
With great beard comes great power. Embrace the color, it is the power. My black beard comes in with 2 white stripes starting at the ends of my moustache. Awesome power.
I was blonde as a kid now my hair is brown but my eyebrows are blonde and my beard is red with some white patches on the sides.
Rock it man Was it @Expat who said sure you don't have to have a beard, then you can be like every other woman and child out there!
this is me also. My head hair is dark blond now, but my 7” beard is a light orange. The contrast makes it stand out. On itching and maintenance: I shampoo/condition my bear every other shower (unless I’ve really worked up a big sweat). I make my own beard balm, but you can find good products out there as well. After a shower (even when I was growing it out in the early stages) I use a blow dryer and comb downwards to tame the fluff and point the hairs in the same direction. It also helps to loosen up some of the curls that wet beard hair develops. On dying the beard: that would be a nope. No one expects beards to be a single uniform color, and it’s quite common for beard hair to be different than head/eyebrow/even mustache hair. Also the redness of a beard can appear different depending on beard length and hair density.
But really it all comes down to your face/beard/preference. You will have a hard time getting your beard hairs less red to then match your head hairs. If you’re going to dye it you may be better off going the slightly browner route which would be easier to shade in smaller increments. Either way, less is more. If you do too much dye (head, beard, brown, red) it will stand out even more than your natural red beard.
Had a teacher in high school that would let his beard get almost all grey, then would dye it jet black. Over and again.
I started thinking today that matching it might not be as easy as I’d like so I will probably just call a barber tomorrow and see if they could just do a light brown on it.
Just go hardcore, and dye it some outrageous color for a few weeks. That way, when you go “natural,” people will immediately/automatically tune out any difference (or say, ala old ladies, how nice it looks to see your real hair color). When my hair started to thin, I said “OK, time for a shaved head,” and never looked back. Be brave!
Just go natural. There's nothing wrong with a red beard. I always grew a goatee for the winter, and shaved it off in the summer. Then a few years ago, I just let it go.
