Not sure I'd want to attend a training course with instructors that don't correct things like this

This was clearly caused by the holster. I get tired of these videos not showing the complete picture and then denigrating students and instructors.
If you look closely you can see that the student is engaging a B27 that is strategically placed on the ground at his feet and utilizing his index and middle finger as a back-up sighting mechanism.

Gee whiz, haven't you all kept up with current tactics?

The holster should have never allowed this guy to draw his weapon.

    It was a JOKE.

I have two buddies who have both shot their toe off due to resting a 12 gauge shotgun barrel on their big toe while hunting, then fiddling with the hammer of the gun out of boredom. Know another guy that is a squared away shooter that shot a hole in his leg trying to draw and fire rapidly. Know another guy that shot a hole in his airplane that is probably one of the best shooters out there. Expat and I know also know a quick draw artist that drives a van. I've shot a hole through a friend's ceiling before. It's a past time in the south to shoot yourself, or get close.

People get way too uptight over gun safety. He didn't hurt anything, so leave him alone. Besides, there are 5 digits on a hand. Do you really NEED all of them?

I live in a glass house here but some of the schools are pushing students into complex drills when they have no idea about general performance abilities. Not particularly this case but have seen it.

    I hope you're joking.

There's absolutely zero room for relaxation when it comes to gun safety. If he were drawing that gun to clear it and shot someone standing near him, it would have been a different story. I knew a kid that shot himself in the leg with his M4 in Kuwait, even after an RSO cleared his rifle.

There's no room for that kind of screw up. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target. Simple stuff.

Sure, but if it weren't for people like him we wouldn't have the Darwin Awards anymore.

Sorry, I get a little uptight when it comes to that stuff. I've almost had my foot shot by someone not paying attention trying to clear his rifle.

I understand calming down and lowering the awareness a bit when you're in a tight group of buddies that shoot together all the time. But even then, that's when the bad things happen.

Yep, too much going on in that training scenario. Exactly what it is they are trying to accomplish I am not sure. The shooter is clearly an "Operator" though...he has a 1911.... ;)

Just caught this thread. I think the holster is actually in part to blame, as it really looks like a Serpa level 2 duty holster from Blackhawk and the gun is a 1911. Those two in combo, are responsible for a lot of ND's. I've been on the range when a cop made two new holes in his leg with the same set-up.
We banned the Serpa shortly afterwards, as did FLETC and a number of high end, pro trainers. When you use your trigger finger to work the release, then add in your thumb to sweep off the safety, your hand makes a gripping movement which can lead to your finger contacting the trigger as you draw.
No excuse for the shooter to not be properly trained and really no excuse for this instructor to not have an immediate cease fire o sort out the ND.
The video that started it all,
