Then I'd say this about that: that was one deep freaking pit.

The nadir must've been down near the asthenosphere (where the crust meets the mantle).

Why, that's deeper than my ex's ... insatiable ego.

I call that delegation, a mark of wisdom, which is why your business has been a role model for mine for years. You made it to where you are now -- founder of this fine forum (void of politics and religion, thank you very much) and ESEE Knives -- by delegating, and knowing when to take a <choose one or more> rest, restitution, vacation, delegation, conflagration ... OK, that's enough.** You get my point. (If not, I'll come back later to clarify.)

(** Jeff pays me $0.75 per word for flattery, minus what appears on the invoice as $0.43 for "Alabama State Tax", so I write as many flattering words as possible. )

Now, about that 600' of rope. Can't we just get a solar powered crane in there? It would save a lot of belay.

Belay was pretty much a placebo. With so much stretch in that new rope, the bottom belay probably wasn't stopping anybody. It was nice to know someone had a hand on rope, but I don't think it mattered much.

I did my homework, and this part is what had me freaked out for weeks. That said, we did have a safety line--contrary to some reports I'd read. And the mud was kind of a tacky clay consistency, which helped a bit with grip. It was still unnerving, especially on the return trip while so tired.

The crawl on that narrow ledge above the 400' drop didn't bother me as bad as the rig point for the drop. That was just freaky looking off into the abyss with nothing but a fine mist of water reflecting off your headlight. Actually the only thing I simply got tired of was the damn slimy mud. I don't mind mud and dirt but this stuff was like thick snot keeping you from manipulating anything with your hands.

Trip was completely miserable. Found these in there on the wall:

I was belaying you, but was 98.76% focused on how much the pit sucked so yeah you probably would have smashed into the death rocks.
