There is a huge difference between European style felling axes and American. Style felling axes. The European design is not good on large trees. It is not simply a handle issue. The entire design falls short on large trees. To drive the point home those Granfors bruks used a Used a Maine made example of an American felling axe when they designed the felling axe they sell. And the influence can be seen in the entire line. I appreciate that you dont understand the difference between a large blade polless and an American design when it comes to performance. Some of us still use axes as more than a novelty.

You are right that was a mean hearted post and for that I apologize.

You do however make some lofty claims and as this is a picture thread all I ask is that you post some pictures. There are plenty of places to be an elitist axe guy and I would hope we can keep it out of this thread

But I suppose I should lead by example...

I started polishing the poll the other day I might leave it as is or I might round it off as more of a hunters poll

Is there a reason you used 4 inch soft pine for this video?
I mean, I batoned through a piece of pretty frozen oak yesterday and carved it into a spoon.(ish). I cant imagine if this axe and handle are on par with an American felling axe you wouldnt just grab an 8inch ish piece of oak and prove it. Would you like a piece of oak?

What is it like to swing? Does it feel a lot different than a typical American style handle?

Not really all that different. It's inherently slim due to being a slip-fit, but it feels very "normal" on account of the unified axis the offset gives it. Effectively, it balances just like a properly balanced American axe would. When the straighter factory handle is on it it feels a little different and requires a slightly different technique in use, but one adjusts to it very quickly.

I would imagine it would be very forward heavy with a straight handle

It's not that bad to contend with on the original handle because it's only a factor when you have your hand up on the neck (it creates a triangulation of the forces involved rather than a single axis) and the handle is wide enough there to make it very easy to resist rotation. The second you slide your top hand to the bottom you're back on one axis and it's not a problem. So account for it in technique and you're all good. It's certainly more "mindless" and automatic with the offset handle, though. Wish I had something larger diameter/harder to demo it on, but that's all I have for a readily available target at the moment. Nothing but pines and SMALL white oaks (like 3" diameter, tops) and all the big trees I kind of want to keep unless something makes me need to harvest them. So this was the end of a log from a small pine that had been cleared for the horse's current small turnout area.

I offered you oak to buck. I think you use small pine because the long straight blade doesnt have the cheeks to throw the chip it needs to because of how it penetrates. Meaning it is a poor choice for bucking and felling.

I really wanted the HBC Hudson Bay axe but they no longer exist. One day I would like to have both a large and small Hudson Bay pattern, maybe even a couple norlund if I could ever find one at a good price

Is there a reason you're so condescending in almost every post you make here? We get it. You have some sort of e-peen deficiency regarding axes. But constantly crapping on a thread for trolling sake is getting old.

And the tone of your comments immediately makes me want to discount your opinion. Which is sad because you seem like a knowledgeable guy.

There is an ignore function for a reason. If anyone gets sad or angry over anothers post, simply move on with your life or use the ignore funtion. Everyone piling on a member right or wrong wont be tolerated.
