Just because I'm so dam proud of this buck.....

    Killed on 1-16-16

It was a beautiful day for hunting. Temps were in the mid 40s with no wind.

A real nice 10 point came from my right and started sniffing on my Tinks 69 wicks, then I laid the hammer down on him!

    Chunks of lung...

A blood trail even Ray Charles could follow

Lo and behold, look at this monster 11 pointer!

After about 2 hours of dragging this monster out to my truck, I was exhausted! Well, I finally got home and got some better shots. This is the biggest buck I've ever shot and it is now at the taxidermist getting an upright mount. Shot at 80 yards with iron sights with my Marlin 45-70 and a HSM 430 grain hardcast bullet.

    Here are the money shots...

    With Cooper

Thanks loco. I hope to shoot one this nice with the bow this year. This buck had 2 does with him when I shot him, so maybe he bred some of his good genes!

That's what dreams are made of.

    I didn't realize a .45-70 went to 430 grains. Dang, that's a hunk of lead comin' out.

They make aftermarket hard cast bullets up to 550 grains for reloaders. Now that's what I call a freight train coming out of your barrel!

They mainly use the 500+ grainers for African safari game. It's for the super deep penetration to hit vital organs!

    Courtesy of Corpus...

If you'll notice on the front left shoulder, you can kinda see where bone fragments had busted through along with the bullet itself. Right in front of the shoulderblade. Didn't notice this until Corpus did the black and white! He also has some nice fighting scars underneath his right eye. This big boy was a bruiser and a fighter! Ray Copeland did an outstanding job of patching up the blown out shoulder!

And to top it all off, hunting season starts next week! Doves watch out!

Outstanding. I have a Marlin Guide in 4570 and just one of my favorites.

I'll be hunting with it again this year along with the same HSM ammo! MTM has staked claim to my 30-30, so hopefully she can reap some of the good luck it has brought me in the past!

I'm so glad we don't have to apply for tags! We can kill 2 doe a day for the whole season! 3 bucks a season as well.

Really? Gotta have county specific tags here. There are 3 lotteries for gun tags before the remaining go "over-the-counter" sales in the fall. The first lottery is back in May or June I think. Hunting usually requires early planning. Bow tags are all OTC. Limit is 2 antlered deer and they have been talking about a doe limit but I don't know that it has changed yet.

I'm hoping to get some time to hunt with my Sage this year but time will tell.

We have the call in system. Before you even move the deer, you call the number on the back of your hunting license. It will ask you date, time, buck/doe, how many points if buck, county, and gun/bow kill. Once you answer the questions, they give you a confirmation # to write in the space on the back of your license. If you get pulled over with a deer and don't have a confirmation #, you will get ticketed.
