How is that even possible? I couldn't buy a spoon that looks that good!

I had a scrap piece of river birch that didn’t look like it wanted to be a spoon. I decided to make t a spatula. Also put some Kolrosing on it. 6DCE6B1E-B3CD-4189-9A00-88071482D686.jpeg

This thread inspired me to buy the whole family some wood blanks and a Mora hook knife for Christmas. We haven’t started working on spoons yet but hope to soon.

Did a quick on trail spoon “how to” on my IG. This is what the end result was. Really fast. This is what I usually whip up when I forget my eating utensil on trips. Rough, but workable. BDFFAA35-25E1-4F82-97A7-67602C4F0FB4.jpeg

the green is not the bark itzelf, it's some kind of moss or algae growing on the bark.
    that might throw you off.

That’s definitely what was throwing me off. At first I thought it was bamboo until I saw where you had split it.

The Bowman Kingfisher. Really a handy sized knife for carving stuff out. Short blade but regular sized handle. Let’s me get into the tighter cuts but still has all the proper leverage. Corey Bowman does great work regardless though. I have two knives from him and am talking with him about doing a larger custom sometime later this year. Cool knife, and a cool maker.

We had a big ash come down at work. Here's the first of what I hope are several spoons from it.
