Definitely a copperhead. Pretty one too. Saw a water moccasin the other day with that old penny copper variant. Rascal got away before I could get the camera going..

I’ve always called those pine snakes, I’ve caught plenty in my yard. But in trying to identify this one I read that pine snakes are rare and endangered. The closest thing I found called it an Eastern Garter Snake… @DYSPHORIC JOY might know….

Very similar speedy I grabbed while doing yard work…

Definite round pupil, no heat pits, small round head. Very docile, doesn’t even try to bite.

pretty sure those are both dekay's brownsnakes, from the two rows of dots down the back and the darker heads.

some garters can look similar, but they get a lot bigger. brownsnakes don't get much past a foot long

Thanks Otis. Based on some online pics, it does appear you are right. My compost bins are full of earthworms which apparently are a main source of their diet.

We had a little oak snake on the bedroom floor this weekend. Yesterday we had a rattlesnake at work in our pressure washing bay.

Tigers are a double whammy. High toxicity and high venom load from a bite. Unlike some of our elapids that strike and back off the Tiger will latch on and “chew” in some sleep juice.
