Taken a new position with a company and the relocation is the Birmingham area sometime in the fall/winter. More than likely because I'm tighter than tree bark is buying a used 5th wheel and staying at the RV parks in the area. I can get what I need for half the price and still be out in the country. Just me the wife and dogs, no kids so don't have to worry about that. My goal is to keep the bills/stress low so this is the idea I'm leaning towards. So tell me about Alabama, I don't have to live in Birmingham I just have to be in the area.
I know that Randall's is right up the road also, and I have weekends off so that will include some classes up there which I've wanted to to for a long time.
Birmingham proper is a little ghetto, but a lot of areas are being gentrified thanks to local breweries. There’s a lot of craft beer in the area now, which has brought in a lot of good places to eat as well. Plenty to do in the area/state if you like the outdoors. Which side of town will you be working in?
I second timdgsr sentiment. Check out Oxford/Lincoln/Tallladega area. Some nice country but still drivable.

Logan Martin lake east of Birmingham isn’t a bad place to park a 5th wheel, but probably more expensive than a normal site. Not super close to Birmingham either. Around 30 minutes to 459 if you found a spot close to the interstate. Northeast and eastern sides of Birmingham are my favorite for less traffic, not as populated, cheaper, etc. Anything south/east on Hwy 280 is awful traffic. 65 South is awful traffic as well.
