    #socialdistancing project #511.
Comprehensive fire kit with multiple methods in an ESEE PSK pouch. I made a larger coal catch for bow/hand drill out of an old piece of copper tubing. Lighter, ferro rod, pocket bellows, ESEE firesteel for bearing block and flint and steel, char cloth tin with charred makeup pads.

The tin kit was a gift and made by @east_woodland_survival It includes: Chaga, potassium permanganate and glycerin, cotton balls, char cloth, matches, flint and steel, piece of fat wood, should be one of my fresnel lens card in it too. Probably more stuff that I’m forgetting lol.
I think some had a few rolled up pieces of paper birch bark.

Copper coal catch was made from a scrap piece of copper tubing I had lying around...split down the middle and hand hammered. Shaped with a hacksaw, file, and hammer. Usually I use natural materials for hand/bow drill coal catches but with the MONTHS of rain we've had it seems like everything we pick up is WET and kills a hard won coal...this will help fix that.

    That’s awesome @shaneadams90

Will that pouch hold two Altoids tins at the same time?

I’ll get pics of my kit soon.

Hey Rick...I feel sure it would if you dropped out the other stuff...quite a bit of room in there...

Cool. I’ve toyed with the idea of setting up a two tin system with fishing stuff in one, fire stuff in the other, and keeping more infrequently used PSK items separate.

Nice kit Shane. I like the idea of the copper catch thingy. Think I first saw that at the bushclass I was at years ago.

Something I was pondering, copper is a great heat sink. I curious if it takes extra effort to start an ember?

Thanks! I already ordered one. If it doesn’t work I’ll find a purpose for the pouch.

@Mudman it's a heat sink but its DRY....it seems like it's been raining for the last year and a half down here in the south...Copper is dry and an insulator, plus.....I was bored and I've been wanting to do that for a while...

I have another piece of tubing and I think I'm going to make a spoon with it..

Also, Corona Virus doesn't last too long on copper from what the scientists say.

I liked the tinder pan and had a bit of 3/4 pipe laying around so I started on one myself this evening. Got it split and deburred.

    Thanks for the inspiration!

@shaneadams90 gets commission on this sale. I had looked at the PSK pouch, but didn't realize how awesome it was until I saw his post. I loaded it up with two tins, a spool of bankline, a few pieces of fatwood, and my handline from James Gibson. The first tin is all fire related items. An extra ferro rod, pocket bellows, trick candle, a couple of bad bee fuses, mini Bic w/tape, fresnel lens, Esbit, fatwood, NATO matches, and striking paper.

The second holds food and water procurement items and a few things specifically for repairs. The only thing I added after this photo was a mini compass.

I've been looking at this setup more and more as an emergency kit to keep in my Xterra should I find myself somewhere I can't get out and need to stay alive.

Is the PSK a MOLLE compatible pack? I'm looking to add a MOLLE panel to the inside of the rear windows to hold recovery gear such as my straps and one for cooking items so having a small survival kit mounted there could be handy as well.

So thinking through my current situation a little more, I realized I had one pretty much empty pouch in the Blueridge Overland Gear Medium FAK I have in original FAK location in the Xterra.

I ran out, grabbed it and dropped in a couple items I have already. One of the new 1/2" fero rods I received recently, a couple makeup pads coated in wax and a sharpening stone I've had for several years.

I'm going to review some threads and write-ups and decide what else I want to add to the kit. I already have a pouch in there with 2x reflective blankets, 2x cheapo ponchos, and an emergency towel in it. The other two pouches are actual first aid with basic bandages, burn cream and tweezers. The other has more involved bandaging gear, shears and a CPR mask.

Why didn’t I see this thread sooner. I just threw out a piece of copper that would have been good for this. Now I’m gonna have to steal a piece out of someone’s wall...
