Just got back from 8 days in southwestern Utah. Camping, hiking, riding. Re-visiting old haunts and exploring new spots...
awesome pics! i barely rode my mtb this year...damn work, guns and motorcycles. sometimes i think i just have too many hobbies...i wish i could force myself to only two - mtb and hiking.
Nice pics. Absolutely one of my favorite stomping grounds. Where exactly is this in SW Utah? Looks awfully close to Zion.
Good eye, Jeff. We were just outside the park, on the western side of Zion, and ranging down toward the AZ border.
Colorado City and the Water Canyon area is a cool place to hang out. Spent a lot of time there exploring. You can also pick up an extra wife or two in Colorado City!
Just outside Zion on the western side is where they hold the Red Bull Challenge. Some crazy SOBs that do this. I've been to the place they hold it and I wouldn't even try to walk down those areas with a rope, much less ride a mountain bike!
Yeah, we drove through Hilldale to get to Water Canyon - pretty bleak, weird place. Drove right by Warren Jeff's old compound, which has now been turned into a hotel by one of his ex-bodyguards. It's named "America's Most Wanted Hotel." You really can't make this **** up..... For the past couple years we've camped across the valley from where the Red Bull Rampage happens. Looking up at what they ride down is a seriously puckering experience. As crazy as it looks in the videos, it's even crazier when you see those cliffs in person.
Last time I was in water canyon Jeff’s gates were open so we drove right up to the front door. This was right after Jeff’s went to work for the state.
Knew some guys who rode with Kelly Mcgarry (the rider in the video above) by all accounts an incredible rider and excellent human being, he passed away in 2016, died of a heart attack while out riding his bike. Terrible loss for his family, friends and the world, but at the same time not a bad way to go if you have to go...
