Folks.... @Strigidae and the Mod team has worked too hard and we have turned the corner..... Don't take the bait.....Keep it on topic and keep it civil.....we are seeing good things come here and it is due to the effort put in by that team......and YOU...the forum members. I also appreciate YOU GUYS that tried to steer the topic back on course and warn those guys prior to the unsheathing of the ban hammer.....It takes a village!
I watched Beyond Skyline. It was alot better than I thought it would be. I tend to shy away from movies that I don't recognize any of the actors/actresses. The special effects were much better than I was expecting too.
This weekend I watched "24 Hours to Live" with Ethan Hawke It was pretty decent. Kindof a mix of Crank and John Wick
I started watching a new series on Netflix, The Rain. Takes place in Denmark. It is dubbed in English, if you can handle that, it is pretty good so far.
I started watching the series The Horn. About alpine rescue in the Swiss Alps. Seems good so far. They don't always speak english. But the subtitles work good.
I tried to stay with this -- it IS a good sci-fi film -- but I just can't do dubs and subs. Maybe I'll try again.
I know what you mean. But it was interesting enough and good enough, I could overlook being dubbed in English.
Back to Britannia on Amazon. I've watched season 1 twice now. It's a bit ... overdone, hyperbolic -- too many arrogant, soap opera, LA street bitches -- very ... Shakespearean, allegorical, action adventure, slit throats, drag entrails and ... ____ OK, that's enough. You get the idea. Interested to see what they do with season 2. PPTN (please pass the nachos)
I know this is a Netflix thread, but, if any of you have Amazon prime, I just watched "Jungle" last night. A pretty good survival flick. And it's apparently based on a true story
I'm a Prime member. Mostly for free shipping, but the videos are not bad. See my post just above (#230) about Britannia. Re Netflix, I'm still watching mostly two there. Last Kingdom with Uhtred of Bebbenburgh. I've watched it through twice already, and now jumping around a bit watching episodes again. I know the story well enough that now I'm into studying them, looking at production methods, props, costumes, staged battles, etc -- more to learn about how film is made effective, but also at how characters develop. (I'm a novice videographer, trying to learn how to tell stories more effectively, though mine are pretty different than anything on Netflix -- different focus, different topics, but still one can learn.) Second, Roman Empire. It's kind of a docu-drama: stage a scene from history, then have a historian or writer opine about it. Usually I find such things a bit tedious, but this one is well done. The historians seem credible, and the acting is pretty good. Not a single face I recognize, but capable actors, costumes, sets, props, etc. And it pretty cool to see this take on Roman history, starting with J. Ceasar and his attempt to subdue the unruly Germanic tribes back in BC. I'm up to S1E3 now: Commodus.
I liked hostiles as well. I watched The Seven Five last weekend. Great documentary if you remember NYPD'S 75th precinct back in the late 80's when a bunch of crooked cops got busted. As a current LEO it blows my mind what they were able to get away with
Just watched “The Girl With All The Gifts” on Amazon. Think 28 days later but with a completely new spin.
I'm into season 3 of this film now. When I first watched it, what ... 2 years ago? I wasn't impressed. Too cheesy, didn't hold my attention. I've changed my mind. (Even though a sexist slime bag -- now banished -- was involved in its production.). The character casting is superb. The attention to sets, wardrobe, weapons ... Like most of these multi-season epics -- including GoT -- it doesn't really crank up until at least the 2nd season. (It takes that long for actors to settle into a role.) This one had my interest by 2, but reaches maturity in 3. Give it a chance.
