Went back out today. Ended up catching at least 100+ crappie. Average size sucked, only kept about 20. Best was right at 14". Caught six channel cats, biggest was around 10lbs. But one was almost solid black, with light patches. Almost a calico look. Looked like something from a fish tank.
I only got to hunt the last week of the season. Stuck it out the last day, circled the entire property to get in behind two toms, and shot this one right at 1 p.m.
Dad pulled in a nice one too. 9 pounds 14 ounces. An old lady was walking through the park while we were landing dad’s fish. The top of the bank is about 15’ above the river right now and it’s about a 70 degree slope to the bottom. I struggled more with suppressing my colorful language then anything. Of course she thought we reeled in a monster but this fish is about average, just happened to be meaner then most. Then she needed to take pictures for herself. My legs are all scratched up from descending the bank three times. Managed to get dirt and deep woods off into the scrapes which feels magical. I took big fish for this week in catfish league. Dad and I brought in the most fish weight. Good night overall.
No pics, but I’m in a ground blind with my son out at the edge of a tall grass field with some thick brush behind. I’m likely not in the best “deer” place, but I’m in a great place with my boy, and this can only help the two of us grow closer together.
