Fire is now jumping the road and is 6 hectares in size, as well as burning underground in the peat . They are starting to waterbomb it.

fire is encroaching on Dept Of National Defense lands (100% peat bog/forest). Not sure if the CDN FORCES are assisting yet....

orignal fire was over 1000 feet deep into the thick forest/bog, they had to call in BC Wildfire attack crews to chainsaw their way into the forest so they could run hoses.

the main issue was water. They had to run miles of hose from hydrants far away from the actual fire. I feel bad for the fire crews that have to drain and wind up several miles of hose......

    couple photos :

you can see the peat base......its over 3 meters deep.........

    update:

    "
The fire is burning near Shell Road, on the north side of Westminster Highway, and is between seven and eight hectares in size and growing.

Around 1:15 p.m. the bog fire broke through to Shell Road and is now in danger of jumping the road.

The BC Wildfire Service says it’s sent two initial attack crews, four skimmers, a helicopter and a Bird Dog spotter plane to assist Richmond fire crews, and that it could send more help if needed.

Skimmers could be seen making runs on the Fraser River to load up with water Friday afternoon.

An excavator has been put into action as well to cut away the forest growth so firefighters can battle the blaze. Trees will have to be removed.

Fire still burning today, but somewhat under control. 4 air bombers, massive ground attack crew, all trying to soak the 3 meter deep peat with forced water application, and foam/water in some places.

    The worst! haha

It's only bad when there's something to actually fix. Otherwise, it's just a pony ride.

Oh absolutely no doubt, fixing requires gloves and work for anything on a farm. Real work.

Photo of the maple I am buying for myself.

I got it on a summer sale with a truckload we brought in.
Reefer van was set in the 50s, and it was upper 90s air temp when we unloaded, so everything stressed.

This little guy dropped leaves off the top 6 or 8 inches, but is leafing out again now.
Pictured it the new growth, so this is what I will get every spring.
