Thanks man! I am a little late to the show, I have been swamped and off forum for a bit! The J2 use is going to be ramped up as soon as the weather cools down!

You used a spyderco sharpmaker and the edge was too obtuse to be hit by the rods? Do I understand that correctly? It seems to me my Idahone at 22.5 degrees hits them fine, although I am mostly stropping.

I am actually really surprised that your edge rolled from batoning, keep us in the loop with how all that turns out!

The sharpmaker barely touched the rolled edge. After 20 minutes of screwing around with it I moved onto my edge pro apex. . My edge pro fixed it in a similar time.

The edge was rolled while batoning through a 3” diameter knot in seasoned oak. I gave her a firm beating to get through it.

Darn. Are those available anywhere, without having to get a cleaver? :D

I emailed Mike Perrin co-owner of ESEE a few weeks ago about those black g10 scales and he replied that no they are not currently available and probably won’t be for quite sometime. So as of now you would have to purchase a cleaver. So I bought the orange g10 instead.

@Anders Bach You might look at posting in for sale or trade looking for a set. Might be some folks sitting on some.

@shaneadams90 trick is to take those black g10s and put them on the junglas I. It totally changes the feel in the hand.

Ironically I was wanting the black g10 because I have a Junglas I with orange g10 so I wanted something different but since the black wasn’t available I bought the orange and Rook posted those black scale for sale about 2 days after I already ordered the orange!

Was out all day doing some trail clearing, and put my Junglas II to work. I managed to roll the edge just a touch hitting a damned rock. Can't really see it in the picture, but the knife held it's edge pretty well otherwise. Fifteen minutes with a Work Sharp field sharpener and it was razor sharp again...

I received my Junglas II today and I think it's going to be just about perfect for my specific needs. We have wooded property with walking trails and I often have to keep them trimmed and cleared in the spring and summer. I love my 6 as a field knife, but it's definitely not a chopper and wasn't designed to be one. Even trimming back smaller branches with the 6 is a bit of a chore due to its light weight. My Junglas handles that job with ease, obviously, and I've typically carried it and the 6 or LS when in the woods. I could just carry the Junglas, but I prefer something smaller for non-chopping chores and, to be blunt, I don't always enjoy carrying a knife as large as the Junglas.

The JII seems like it will be a good blend of what the 6 can do well and what the Junglas does well. Light to medium chopping and trimming branches is no problem at all. I was more concerned about liking it for other tasks, but my initial impression is that the shorter blade will allow it to fill the 6 role. My 6 and Junglas aren't going anywhere. It was not my intention to actually replace those knives. I was simply looking for something I could take out when I wanted a "one knife solution". After using it a while this afternoon I can see where the JII could be either a smaller Junglas (which it is) or a beefed up 6. Either way you look at it, I believe I'm really going to enjoy it.
