Great thread. Stellar looking parang. How does it handle chopping dead hardwoods? Do you know the weight of it with sheath?

    Hey Del,

It chops and splits hardwoods well, far better than you would imagine for a 10inch blade, have compared it to a junglas, bk9 and the condor village parang, also various machete and it kicks all there ass. Not sure on the weight its about the same as the junglas, when the wife gets home I will get her to find the scales to confirm.

Thanks. I’m in the market for a take anywhere chopper. As much as I love a 1/8” 1075 machete I just find them too light for seasoned hardwoods and something like the M18 was just too heavy to lug around.

I hear ya, I hate carrying extra weight, I also like whatever blade Im carrying to melt into your hip. You should check out ben orford on youtube, he has a couple of vids on the parang.

If you think the parang pattern might work for you grab a cheapo malaysian one or a condor mini duku and beat some wood. Then if you it hate and your cursing my name atleast your not to far out of pocket.

I was thinking that. Rather than drop bombshell money on an unknown style.

Excellent thread. Bushcraft is where it's at. Seeing the kids out there makes my heart sing. (If only 90% of kids did that here, the US would be a different country ... don't get me started.)

Condor has the Bushcraft (heavy model) and the Eco (lighter) parangs. They have stellar reviews on you tube. Might be a way to try em without the large investment.....

They dont bother me Mate, you get immune after a while, When I was guiding I would see folks look like they had been in a brawl with swollen eyes, open sores etc. The English got it worst. A wide brim hat, long sleeves and camping in the bushline is the best remedie. I would see guys camping by creeks in the open just give up and hide in the tent. There is a couple of native plants like the celery tree that makes great repellent.

This rifle is relativly new to me, its ultra light and a real struggle to shoot. Every error is magnified with a light rifle. Add the fact Im teaching myself to shoot right handed after shooting left handed my whole life and yeah cut me a bit of slack Broskies haha
