A couple of small holes, the bail is aluminium welding wire, the spoon is cut down to fit the hole in the handle for lifting off the fire. Hope these pics help. 20180324_132431.jpg 20180324_132507.jpg 20180324_132551.jpg 20180324_132603.jpg

Really nice Stewart. For a minute there I thought you were the man who ended up with the David Farmer Dangerous Curves Golok. Do tell us about your chopper, thickness, steel, ect. It's been my observation that a man doesn't carry a cutter like that except that he has specific wants and needs from it.... Let us in on yours. :)

Hey Bro! good to see your still kicking around the forum!

My Chopper is a Ben Orford Eban Parang.
It has a 10inch blade made from 5/32 01 at 58-59 RC. The First couple of inches are scandi and the rest is convex, The spine nearest the handle is squared for striking a firesteel.

Basically I wander about in a country that has a very diverse range of Flora, It has Jungle like conditions up north, alpine beech, thick scrub and tussock down south. I needed a blade tough enough to split firewood one minute yet be light enough to swing all day in tight conditions. A jack of all trades for woody targets.

I wanted a tool that was light, compact and tough as nails. something you can have on your hip and forget its there. For me its the best compromise between a large knife, axe and machete.

After years of owning all sorts of choppers from machete to big knives like the Junglas and traditional Asian golok and parang I realised the parang pattern really worked for me but the rattail tangs didnt like spitting hardwood and the handle would split or come loose.

Its the handle and blade shape together make it hit hard for its size or you can choke up and it's like a belt knife.
