Decided to give it a blast.(UK BASED)
    gear i have so far:
    Redington pursuit 9' #6
    Redington path outfit 9' #5
    Orvis clearwater outfit 10' #7
Greys reel ( cant remember model)
Landing net, priest, lines, flies & tying equipment etc.

Im normally a pike & carp fisherman so this will be a steep learning curve.
I know some will wonder why the line ratings and overlap but i like the idea of spare but slightly different rods with me in case of accidents etc.

I look forward to updates on your fly exploits.

And don't discount carp (or pike) as worthy of pursuit with a fly rod as well! Some of the most challenging and fun fly fishing I've ever done was on carp. Getting them to eat a fly requires a great deal of stealth and patience, but when you hook one, it's a blast, esp. in shallow water.

Wow, I have never had more than one working fly rod at a time. The thing about fly fishing is that the casting can keep you entertained when the fish aren't biting.

Carp are evil.............food picky choosy bastards............no ******* commitment to bait presentation.......then when they mouth the bait....and decide to go with it.....they are 5000 Foot lbs of Torque ....god help you if you run less than 100lb test braid and a strong rod.

Fly Fishing is awesome....everyone thinks casting is the hard part....it's actually the presentation and the entomology..knowing how to drop the fly on the water and knowing WHAT to tie on are the absolute KEYS to fly fishing.

Understanding hydro-topography and fish behavior certainly helps. I've have the good fortune to fish a LOT of rivers all over the country but nothing compares to taking my sons on the water and watching them catch fish and see the fire ignite in them.

Time spent on our little drift boat is time well spent....Even had old @Patrick Rollins out on the boat as well to do some "filming".

Few things are more rewarding that catching a fish on a fly you tied too! That's a whole'nuther sickness!

Cool, I have looked at a lot of plans online. I ended up buying a old beat up Gheenoe clone that I am rebuilding. This is my first time working with fiberglass. I have skinned over the bottom, I just need to rebuild the seats now.

I looked forever too....Don Hill plans and then drool over Montana Boat Builders and Colorado Boat Builders....but I could never paddle those they are so pretty! aww...who am I kidding....I'd paddle one. This one is more of a skiff style and has a LOT of room inside...easy to get around and row...the bottom is LineX and really durable and I treat the exposed wood with Linseed oil a few times a year.

Got this guy totally on accident. I was fishing our spring walleye run in the river using a Carolina rig. Double swivel sinker with a three foot lead attached to a floating jighead with a curly tail jig. I was using a med pole and 8lb test on a spinning reel. Took me 45min and alot of drag adjustments to haul it in. It trashed my reel, bent the bail and warped the rotor. I thought my pole was gonna snap in half a few times when he surged lol. Sorry not fly fishing related but carp related lol Weight 17.5lbs. 31in

thats some seriously nice kit.........well done. That kit will last you a lifetime and beyond. Now comes the fun part.....putting in water time, all the time, daily, any weather, year round, until you lose your job and spouse as a result.....

then you will ascend into fly fishing Nirvana. I know, I have been there. Lost 12 jobs in 10 years when i had the fly fishing bug.....and i did not care in any way shape or form. I even got fellow employees into it..,.....

We don’t have a lot of trout in my area but we have an ubundance if northern pike and panfish. I have a couple rods but never use them much.

I should dig them out and give it a shot with bluegills.
