I'm not normally a steel snob but this knife is just not working for me. I sharpen and sharpen and sharpen it and I can't get the darn thing sharp at all. Sure, it's sharp on the one side, but the other side just seems too thick. It's pretty dull and I've been working on it a few hours. I'm not sure what Patrick was thinking when he designed the back of it. It won't cut. So I give the thing a B-. A+ on one side, F on the other.
It really was funny from this side of the screen. If sarcasm were detectable in text then they would have known that that comment was tongue in cheek, but sarcasm has to be dripping heavily before you can tell in the written word. You just got caught in the middle.
They have really been on it. Shane and P. Rollins been working it hard! I agree with having a few things more "skills related" to the existing videos. DANCE MONKEY! -RB
I am finishing up a HM Kydex video now.... Skills: Patrick and I are going to be in the field quite a bit next week as we have been RAINED in that last 2-3wks down here..we NEED TO GET OUT... What SKILLS would you guys like to see? Shoot us some ideas!
Lots of good stuff coming this year in preparation for some new stuff in 2019. All of us are going to be out in the field a LOT the remainder of this year getting things in place for new classes and new product.
Fire building when it's wet out. What makes a good BASIC kit. What knife styles excel at different tasks, and why they do. Chest rigs seem to be popular. Shelter building is always interesting. Especially if going to different areas, and building a shelter from what that area has to offer. Different knife grips for various tasks. Roughing out spoons. I'll post more as it enters my mind.
Just got my PR4 and I love it! Man I can't believe I waited so long to get it. @Patrick Rollins You did a great job brother! What made you choose the saber bring versus the conventional scandi or flat grind? I actually really like the saber, it's sort like compromise (in a good) between the two. At least to me. Another question, the grooves on the handles are all unique to each handle? I see the pattern is the same, but I assume the since it was done by hand most likely, that they're all a little different.
@Bushcraft_Dave take a look at the video below....I think Patrick and Reuben will answer some of your questions... I'm pretty sure that all the scales are machined, not done by hand...James does them by hand, but Rowen has CNC routers!
I've used a few different Kephart-esque knives over the years, and the PR4 is definitely the most un-orthodox interpretation I've played around with. It's also become my favorite, of that style. Guess I'm not much of a 'traditionalist'.....
