Lol no, they specialize in feeding on them. It's something to see them feed!

Never seen an Eastern Brown that behaved differently when annoyed. At that size they do try to "over compensate" a bit I think. A larger one generally just takes a spot, rares, coils and dares you to push a little more (while also looking for a way out). They will spoil your day if they nip you so I have them plenty of space and respect.

Showed up to work the next day and it had apparently choked to death eating a green anole.

Yeah I had it since it was a hatchling for about 2 years. It was just getting its adult coloration. I've been slow to replace it with anything else.

Damn John that sucks. I just lost a retic a couple weeks ago. Not sure what happened. Doesn't make it any easier. It's a shame, especially when you've raised them from young!

Yeah I still have the terrarium sitting empty on my desk at work just keeping the Pothos plants alive. I may try to catch a could eastern fence lizards this spring and put them in it.

It happens. I found one of my free range snakes dead in the barn a few years back. Had to be close to 30 years old.

I'm getting like you where I just like seeing them in the wild. I'll catch and handle them for a bit then let them back go. I hate seeing wild things caged.

When I was young my dad would stop and catch every Black snake that we saw crossing the roadway and release them on our property . He said they would keep poisonous snakes away .

Later in life my wife and I encountered a large Black snake that had swallowed about a foot of a large copperhead , both were dead beside the road , I guess during the fight a car ran over them ? I have a pic somewhere.

Here is a young one that I encountered last summer -

    Sorta photogenic -

And a copperhead that was down the road from home -

Wouldn't want the kids finding that one , and to think we roamed the woods day and night as kids without a thought ..
